Sirowa SACCO: Empowering Communities and Boosting Wealth Creation in Kisumu
Sirowa SACCO is on a mission to revolutionize the savings and credit industry in Kisumu and Luo Nyanza by empowering communities, encouraging financial literacy, and boosting wealth creation. The SACCO recently visited the Mbeme location in Kolwa Central, Kisumu East, to meet with the Kobuor Self Help Group, a group of 125 men and women in their 50s and 60s who have been saving funds yearly to undertake a project that will benefit the group.
Sirowa SACCO's executive team was invited to advise and congratulate them on their sound saving culture. During the meeting, Sirowa SACCO informed the group about their school fees club where they can save between 200-300 shillings daily per member and receive funding of between 55,000-110,000 per year towards their children or grandchildren school fees.In addition to the school fees club, SIROWA SACCO also advised the group to invest in other financial products such as fixed deposit accounts and savings accounts, which have higher interest rates than regular savings accounts. The SACCO also informed the group about the benefits of borrowing from a reputable financial institution like SIROWA SACCO, which offers lower interest rates and flexible repayment terms compared to other informal lenders.
We also discussed the importance of NHIF cover and how the SACCO can facilitate the payment of the cover for all group members.
The Agricultural expert from the group requested Sirowa SACCO to assist the group in supporting their farming activities by providing farm inputs for their produce and finding markets for them. Sirowa SACCO gladly extended their hand in helping the group with every development activity they are involved in.
The group members expressed excitement in joining Sirowa SACCO and investing in their products, including the Agriculture Savings Club, where they can save and invest KES 1,000 monthly and earn KES 9,000 every six months.
Sirowa SACCO is also offering solutions to counter the capital flight of Luo capital out of Kisumu, where up to KES 10 million is leaving Kisumu, Luo pockets, and flying away because Luos are just borrowing and not lending. Sirowa SACCO's solution is the Karibu Loan, where members can borrow KES 500 and pay back in one day, twice, with KES 550. The limit then increases to KES 1,000, which can be paid back in ten days at KES 120 per day. The limit can be increased further to KES 2,000 and KES 3,000.
Sirowa SACCO also offers the Eat Now, Pay Later Loan, where bodaboda, tuktuk, and taxi drivers, as well as market women, can take loans in the form of cash or foodstuffs to cater to their immediate needs. This initiative is a testament to the SACCO's dedication to financial inclusion, especially for the low-income earners.
During the visit, the SIROWA SACCO executive team also offered training on basic bookkeeping and budgeting skills to the group. This knowledge is vital in helping the group manage their funds efficiently and maximize their profits. They also emphasized the importance of diversifying their investments to reduce the risks associated with investing all their funds in one project.
The visit by SIROWA SACCO was a significant boost to the KOBUOR SELF HELP GROUP. The group expressed their gratitude and promised to continue saving and investing in projects that will benefit the community. The SACCO promised to continue supporting the group by offering financial services and products that are tailored to their needs.
The members of KOBUOR SELF HELP GROUP were grateful for the visit and the advice given by SIROWA SACCO. They expressed their desire to work with the SACCO to achieve their financial goals and improve their standard of living.
The visit to KOBUOR SELF HELP GROUP is just one of the many initiatives that SIROWA SACCO has undertaken to promote financial inclusion and empower communities in Kenya. The SACCO has a strong focus on providing affordable financial services to its members, especially those in rural areas who have limited access to formal financial institutions.
The visit also highlighted the critical role that financial institutions play in promoting financial inclusion in Kenya. With the majority of the population still lacking access to formal financial services, initiatives like SIROWA SACCO's Eat Now, Pay Later Loan and the School Fees Club are essential in bridging the gap and providing financial services to low-income earners.
In conclusion, SIROWA SACCO's visit to the KOBUOR SELF HELP GROUP was a beacon of hope for financial inclusion. The group's sound saving culture, determination to grow, and willingness to learn from financial institutions like SIROWA SACCO are essential in promoting financial inclusion and uplifting the livelihoods of low-income earners. It is our hope that other financial institutions will follow in SIROWA SACCO's footsteps and work towards promoting financial inclusion in Kenya.Joining Sirowa Sacco also means that you'll have access to financial education and resources that can help you improve your financial literacy and make more informed decisions when it comes to your money.
